Colonel C H Nice TD DL

Colonel C H NiceCommanded 6th (Bermondsey) Bn 'The Queen's Royal Regiment from February 1958 to 31st March 1961.

"Nick" Nice was born in July 1913 and commissioned in The Queen's Royal Regiment in October 1942 and posted to the 13th Battalion. Earlier he had served in the ranks in the l/6th Battalion prior to attending No.164 OCTU. In January 1943 he was posted to Egypt and in March joined the l/6th Battalion with which he served in North Africa, Italy and North West Europe. From January 1946 he served in Italy on the staff of GHQ CME until demobilised in December 1946.

In April 1947 he joined the re-formed 6th Battalion and served as company commander and second-in-command until February 1958 when he was appointed to command the Battalion.

On completion of his tour of command in March 1961 the Battalion was amalgamated with 565 LAA Regiment RA (formerly 4th Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment) and the 5th Battalion to form 3rd Bn The Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment. In 1967 he was promoted Colonel and became Commandant of South West London Army Cadet Force.
