Lt Col L S SheldonCommanded 2/5th Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment from August 1945 to April 1946.

Laurence Stewart Sheldon, known as 'Rudie' (for his good looks) was born on 4th February 1906. He was commissioned in The Queen's Royal Regiment in February 1926 and joined the 2nd Battalion in India. Thereafter he served with the 1st and 2nd Battalions until 1941 except for the period from August 1939 to July 1940 when he was a GSO III.

In 1941 he graduated from Quetta Staff College and then held a number of staff appointments. In August 1945 he was appointed to command the 2/5th Battalion until it was disbanded in April 1946. In 1947 he commanded the Home Counties Training Centre at Shorncliffe. He was DAA and QMG Caribbean Area from 1950 to 1953 - his last appointment .

He retired from the Army on 6th November 1953..

He died on 29th December 1987
