Brigadier T Hart Dyke DSO DL

Commanded 1^st Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment from October 1948 to January 1950.

Trevor Hart Dyke was born on 19^th February 1905 and was educated at Marlborough College and the RMC Sandhurst. He was commissioned in The Queen's Royal Regiment in August 1924 and posted to the 2^nd Battalion with whom he served in India, Sudan and UK until 1930 when he was seconded to the King's African Rifles and returned to the UK in 1936. In 1926 he carried the Regimental Colour at Allahabad at the trooping to celebrate the King's Birthday.

From 1936 to 1939 he served with the Depot and the 2^nd Battalion and attended the Staff College. Between 1939 and 1943, except for short periods when he was 2 i/c of the 2/7^th Battalion and commander of the 13^th (HD) Battalion, he was on the Staff.

In 1944 he trained and commanded a York and Lancaster Battalion in N W Europe and was awarded the DSO for his distinguished leadership. He then served in Burma and India and commanded 25^th East African Infantry Brigade during 1945 to 1946 when he reverted to Lieutenant Colonel to command 5^th Bn The King's African Rifles prior to being appointed to command 1^st Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment in October 1948. The Battalion at this time was in Berlin during the "Berlin Air-Lift". On handing over command in 1950 he was again promoted Brigadier. He then commanded the Lorried Infantry Brigade of 56^th Armoured Division (TA) in London, then became BGS (SD) Northern Army Group and completed his service as BGS Western Command before retiring on 12^th November 1958.
