Commanded 70th (YS) Bn The East Surrey Regiment from September 1940 to February 1941.

Archibald Tito Le Marchant Utterson was born on 10th April 1886 and was commissioned in The Royal Leicestershire Regiment in April 1906. In the 1914-18 War he served in France and Belgium from September 1914 to October 1914, March 1916 to October 1917 and December 1917 to March 1918 and in Egypt from December 1915 to March 1916.

He was wounded twice, awarded the DSO and Mentioned in Despatches. He commanded 2nd Bn The Royal Leicestershire Regiment from May 1933 to 6th November 1937 when he retired from the Army. He was recalled from the Reserve of Officers and after service in France in 1940 commanded 70th (YS) Bn The East Surrey Regiment from September 1940 to February 1941.

He died on 3rd November 1952.

 

A copy of Lt Col A. T Le M Utterson, DSO obituary that appeared in the Regimental magazine of The Royal Leicestershire Regiment in the issue dated February 1953 is held in the commanding officers file in the Surrey History Centre.
