Commanding Officer - The East Surrey Regiment
Commanded 2nd Bn The East Surrey Regiment from June 1943 to June 1944.
Kenneth Trevor Roper, known as 'Katie', was born on 27th October 1908 and was commissioned in The Dorset Regiment in August 1928. He went straight to the 1st Battalion in India and apart from a tour at the Depot in 1935-36 and the Staff College, Quetta in 1939 all his service pre 1939-45 War was with that Battalion in India. He was then appointed Brigade Major of 25th Infantry Brigade and was at Dunkirk.
He later was Brigade Major of 70th Infantry Brigade and in 1942 was appointed 2 i/c of 2nd Bn The East Surrey Regiment. From June 1943 he commanded that Battalion until June 1944 when he was appointed as GSO I.
In 1945 and 1946 he was 2 i/c The Worcestershire Regiment in the Far East and then commanded the 5th Burma Rifles in 1947. From 1947 to 1949 he was GSO I (Trg) Southern Command. From 1950 to 1951 he was 2 i/c 1st Bn The Dorset Regiment. He then was appointed Military Attaché in Tel Aviv which appointment he held until 1955. He retired from the Army on 11th February 1955.
He died on the 1st August 1972.
