Queen Anne authorizes the raising of six Regiments of Marines, including that of Colonel Villiers. Villiers’ Marines raised at Taunton and Bridgewater.

 

Regiment embarks for Spain.

Villiers’ Marines renamed Luttrell’s Marines.

 

A Grenadier’s pouch & a waist-belt with sword and socket bayonet
Left; A Grenadier’s pouch with hatchet and cartouch. Right; A waist-belt with sword and socket bayonet. All companies carried a bayonet although only the grenadiers had a sling to their muskets.

Badge
It is believed that the crown initials ‘AR’ and the horizontal anchor formed the badge which was worn in the centre of the hat.
