Colonel D G Dickson, OBE.,MC*.,TD.

Commanded 6th Bn The East Surrey Regiment from 1st May 1947 to 30th April 1950.

Duncan Graeme Dickson was educated at Charterhouse and Hartford College, Oxford and commissioned in 6th Bn The East Surrey Regiment in May 1936 with whom he served until the doubling of the Territorial Army in 1939 when he joined the 1/6th Battalion. In this period he took part in most Battalion activities in including boxing and he was a keen rider of a rather ancient motor cycle. In December 1939 he was posted to the 1st Battalion in France and was wounded and evacuated from Dunkirk. After a short spell in the 2/6th Battalion he was posted to The Royal West African Frontier Force and served with 8th Bn The Gold Coast Regiment in Africa, India and Burma. He was awarded the Military Cross in 1944 and a bar in 1945. In 1947 he was appointed to raise and command a new 6th Battalion which he did with considerable energy. In 1950 after completing his tour he was placed in the Territorial Army Reserve of Officers and from 1956 to 1958 was in command of the Surrey Mobile Defence Corps for which service he was made an OBE in 1959.

He died on 21st December 1982.
