Lieutenant
Colonel Holmes was appointed to the Colonelcy on 8th May 1749. As
a Major General in 1756 he was in command when, by reason of an
order dated 25th August 1756, a 2nd Battalion of the Regiment was
raised and which later became the 70th Regiment. Promoted to Lieutenant
General on 2nd April 1759, he died in 1762. |
